Mike Thompson Says Goodbye

After Christmas I had 2 cyclocross races i wanted to do well in, the last round of the National Trophy series on the 6th of January and the National Championships a week later, both these races were brilliant to catch up with everyone after Christmas.

First of all was the National Trophy round 6 at Derby, a very fast, twisty and slippy course. I got a poor start and struggled round the slippy course but was happy enough with 9th place, the guys at the front of the race were flying! With this out of the way i was left with one more race, the biggest domestic race for Cyclocross! The National Champs, which was held in Bradford which a brilliant course, it was frozen in the morning and really fast but as 3 races were on before hand it got muddier and muddier, the race was really fast again and I managed to get a reasonable start but could not quite match the top guys I eventually lost out in a sprint for 7th to come 8th!

I enjoyed the Cross season but I am happy it is out of the way so MTB can again take the focus!

For 2013 I am changing teams, I am moving to RWD Brakes Factory Racing which is run by some great Yorkshire folk and although I am moving I would still be happy to help with the academy set up by Richardsons CC and anything else when possible. This leads me to also thank everyone for their input and support, a big thanks to TEF for their support during my time racing for TEF Richardsons RT and to Richardsons Cycles with Debbie always helping me and getting me great deals and Ian for fixing and building bikes to get me ready for races! Their support is greatly appreciated. Also my old coach/team manager and friend Mark Grange for the help with coaching, putting me forward for different things and for being so supportive and tolerant in helping me progress as a bike rider, as we all know Mark is one of the most enthusiastic men you will meet and him and Hazel have both looked after me and they have both helped me so much to improve through their amazing support! I would also like to thank anybody in the club for pushing me on tuesday night rides e.g. Nige Mike and Hopper, shouting my name at races and giving me advice and support.

Happy bike riding for 2013, hope to see some of you soon!

Mike
